BHE Renewables, through its CalEnergy subsidiary, has been a key driver of economic growth in California’s Imperial Valley. Since 2001, it has generated roughly $232.3 million in local taxes and currently operates 10 geothermal facilities in the region. BHE Renewables and the BHE Renewables Foundation further invest in Imperial Valley through various initiatives that support education, community outreach, public health and workforce development.
 
Collectively, the facilities deliver power to Southern California Edison, the City of Riverside, Sacramento Municipal Utility District, Imperial Irrigation District, Salt River Project and Arizona Public Service.

Community Impact

BHE Renewables makes a significant contribution to the Imperial Valley community. The company actively supports more than 130 local organizations, employs over 200 full-time team members and offers continuous volunteer opportunities for its employees throughout the year. These efforts demonstrate BHE Renewables' commitment to fostering positive change and values strong relationships in our communities that lead to good outcomes, including:

  • Recognition as Imperial Valley College’s first Platinum Partner for investments in scholarships, internships and workforce development. BHE Renewables staff also collaborates on curriculum development for geothermal and lithium careers.
  • Imperial Valley College’s Lithium Industry Force Training (LIFT) program award, which offers programs to train local workforce for geothermal and mineral extraction jobs.
  • Inclusive hiring opportunities with partnerships that include the American Indian Science and Engineering Society and Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers.
  • Assistance for foster children and victims of domestic violence, food bank distribution, shoe and backpack drives, K-12 career days, tree planting and more.
