Solar Star 1 & 2
As the fourth-largest solar farm in the U.S., Solar Star 1 and 2 combine to power the equivalent of approximately 250,000 average California homes. By capturing and converting energy from the sun, the project reduces over 560,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually – equivalent to removing more than 2 million gasoline-powered cars from highways over a period of 20 years. Solar Star 1 and 2 represented the largest solar project in the world when constructed.
Solar Star’s high-efficiency panels ensure land use is minimized. The site is maintained in compliance with the protection of all state-listed endangered and rare species. This includes preserving the habitat of the LeConte’s thrasher, a vulnerable bird species. During construction, biologists ensured there were no impacts on the endangered desert tortoise from trenching or ground-disturbing activities.
Generation from the projects is sold to Southern California Edison under long-term power purchase agreements.
Solar Star 3 & 4
In 2024, Clean Power Alliance (CPA) approved two 20-year Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with BHE Renewables for the innovative Solar Star 3 and 4 solar plus storage projects in Kern County.
The Solar Star 3 and 4 projects will deliver substantial renewable power capacity and advanced battery storage beginning in 2026, helping enhance grid reliability for communities across CPA’s expanding service area.
